The Evolution of VMware NSX

The result of four years of R&D dedicated to creating a new networking paradigm, VMware® NSX™ network virtualization was built to make networking more affordable, flexible, and manageable. This ground-breaking, software-based technology, introduced in 2013, offered customers the agility and freedom to build the network architectures of the future. NSX redefined the networking industry: an industry now defined by software, and not solely by its hardware components.

Igniting a Networking Revolution

Almost instantly, NSX network virtualization was recognized as one of the great disruptive technologies of our time. It offered a whole new way to look at and understand networking operations. The dramatic improvements in speed and agility that NSX made possible became a game-changer for networking and its future potential.

One of the most important aspects of this game-changing technology is the micro-segmentation capability of NSX, which offers an unprecedented level of security inside the data center. As Jeff Schilling, chief security officer, Armor, says, “You see a lot of security companies fighting the 2005 fight in 2015. VMware NSX equips customers in a cloud-like environment while giving them a threat-tight security wrapper from Day One.”

Welcome to a New Era

Since that time, NSX has quickly gained momentum. At VMworld in August 2015, VMware CTSO Guido Appenzeller put a stunning exclamation proof-point on the NSX story when he demonstrated live on stage how NSX can reduce the time it takes to provision apps—from months to minutes.

Today, that momentum continues unabated as enterprise customers worldwide realize that the future of networking is NSX, and that future is here now. Organizations embracing a flexible network virtualization strategy are already reaping the benefits of this networking evolution. Those that continue to invest in costly and inflexible hardware-centric network architectures risk being left behind by their competitors, and lost forever on the wrong side of history. What side do you want to be on? The time to choose is now.
