Google, IBM and Lyft Launch Istio, an Open-Source Platform for Managing and Securing Microservices

Google, IBM, and Lyft are proud to announce the first public release of Istio: an open source project that provides a uniform way to connect, secure, manage and monitor microservices. Our current release is targeted at the Kubernetes environment; we intend to add support for other environments such as virtual machines and Cloud Foundry in the coming months. Users will be able to access the usability, security and portability benefits of Docker EE through the easy to use Rancher interface. Docker provides a powerful combination of runtime with integrated orchestration, security and networking capabilities. Rancher provides users with easy access to these Docker EE capabilities, as well as the Rancher platform’s rich set of infrastructure services and other container orchestration tools. Users will now be able to purchase support for both Docker Enterprise Edition and the Rancher container management platform directly from Rancher Labs.

Oracle Partners with Docker To Bring Flagship Databases and Developer Tools to the Docker Store

Oracle announced today that it is collaborating with Docker to release its flagship databases, middleware and developer tools into the Docker Store marketplace via the Docker Certification Program. Together, Oracle and Docker enable developers to quickly build cloud-native applications using Docker Enterprise Edition as their container platform and Oracle’s databases and developer tools immediately available as Docker containers through the Docker Store..
